Chloramine Chemistry

We have developed an analytical approach for the detection and identification of the active chlorine species that result from the reaction of peptide and protein amines with chlorine/hypochlorite. This liquid chromatography/ flow injection method has been used to determine the organic N-chloramines that result from the chlorination of sewage wastewater. The effectiveness of a series of new dechlorination agents has recently been completed. In the future, we hope to develop new collaborative projects to determine the reactivities and role of protein chloramines in biological systems.

A preliminary paper on our wastewater investigations has recently been published: http://www.chemistry.org/portal/resources?id=feec0bf248ea11d7e6e36ed9fe800100 see page 47.
