Instructions for On-Line Data Evaluation

Once you have run your algorithms on the XPS-STD, follow these instructions to obtain an evaluation of your results for peak binding energies and peak intensities.

1. Paste the binding energy and intensity data in the text area at the upper left of the Evaluation page. The posted data should be arranged in a table containing 4 columns and 22 rows per data set. The order of the 22 rows must be the same as the order in the XPS-STD spectra that you downloaded earlier. The columns should contain, from left to right:

A) The position (eV) of the higher binding energy peak or singlet
B) The intensity of the higher peak
C) The position (eV) of the lower binding energy peak
D) The intensity of the lower peak

Each column should be spaced with some character, such as a space or tab. Here is a sample row of input data, which is separated by single spaces:

286.50 10.20 285.15 15.50

More than one data set can be analyzed at a time. To do this, place the data sets in sequential order one below another, for example data sets 1,2,3, or 2,3,4, etc. Data sets should not be entered out of sequence, e.g., 1,3,4,etc. No extra space is needed between each data set. The columns of data should be continuous.

2. In the text area labeled "Choice," input the number of the first data set that was analyzed. This space should only contain a value from 1 to 10. The default data set is 1.

3. If more than one spectra set was analyzed, input the number of data sets in the text area labeled "Number of Tests." The default value is 1.

4. Click on the "Calculate" button to have the data set(s) evaluated. The results which consist of deviations and standard deviations from the true values will be displayed in the two text areas on the lower left, while data comparison with test groups will appear on the right.

5. A final, completely optional step is to have the results of a data evaluation submitted and recorded on a server for group analysis purposes. To submit the results, simply click on the "Submit" button and wait for confirmation of the submission, which should appear at the bottom of the web browser. Once completing the submission, a Survey ID will appear, listing a number under which the submitted results were logged. Record this Survey ID Number and use it to fill out the User Survey, which asks questions regarding the On-Line Data Evaluation Page.

*** Please Note: Results of evaluated data will only be logged and possibly analyzed if submitted to the server by the user. Therefore, it is completely up to the user as to whether he or she chooses to have it recorded. Also, please submit only real results from analysis of the raw data, not test numbers for studying the use of the On-Line Data Evaluation Page. Later analysis of the logs will not require tedious removal of false submissions. ***
