For Authors:
DEADLINES
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CHANGES TO THE PROCEEDURES
FOR PREPARING THE FINAL VERSION OF PAPERS FOR THE PROCEEDINGS:
Due to the many
late papers and late reviews, we are changing the timetable for the
review process. All papers received are undergoing technical and editorial
review prior to final acceptance. However, many of these reviews are
still incomplete. Authors should wait until they receive the reviews
for their papers to make their final revisions. We intend to have all
reviews returned to the authors on or before October 4, 2002. Authors
should make the appropriate revisions and prepare their camera-ready
manuscripts by November 12, 2002.
As before, an electronic
copy of the final manuscript should be sent to: ts2002@nist.gov
One hard copy of
the paper should be sent to:
8th Temperature Symposium
Mrs. Dawn Vaughn, Secretary
100 Bureau Dr., Stop 8363
Gaithersburg, MD 20899-8363 USA
An electronic version
may also be mailed to the postal address above if it is inconvenient
to send a copy by e-mail. We will use the hard copy to verify that the
formatting that we see on the electronic version is identical to what
the authors intend.
Any author who
may have questions regarding the submission of their manuscript should
contact the Symposium Secretary at ts2002@nist.gov
or call 1-301-975-4822.
PROGRAM UPDATE
All authors should
be aware that the Symposium Program has undergone slight revisions since
the ISA published its advance program in July. The program
now posted on this site supercedes the earlier advance program.
PRESENTATIONS
As with past Temperature Symposia, there will be only oral presentations.
There are no poster sessions. Each presentation is allotted 20 min.,
including time for questions. The schdule of talks is contained in the
program. Please be aware that only those papers
that are presented during the Symposium will be published in the Proceedings.
Authors should understand that paper acceptance implies willingness
to pay the speaker registration fee and present at the conference. For
co-authored papers, a minimum of one author must register for the conference.
Further information
concerning multimedia formats for presentations will be sent to the
authors prior to conference.
PAPER FORMAT
We will be following the two-column format of conference proceedings
of the American Institute of Physics, and we request that papers be
submitted in Word 97 format. The length of papers is limited to six
pages.
A Microsoft Word 97 template is attached. To use this template, we suggest
that you copy the file "A4_8x11_double_column.dot" to a new location,
and name the file nameN.doc, where name = the first author's last name,
and N= the identification number given at the top of this e-mail. This
template works for either A4 or 8 1/2" x 11" paper, but it is very important
that you select A4 paper for the whole document in the File/Page Setup/Paper
Size menu of Word. (Once you have selected A4, it is still possible
to print the A4 document onto 8 1/2" x 11" paper without affecting the
paper format.)
AIP provides somewhat more complicated instructions on installing their
template into the Word 97 template choices. This file, "toolkit_guide.doc",
is available at their web site under the link "AIP Users Guide" if you
wish to do this. The instructions also describe the use of some of the
macros that will appear under a new menu category called AIP in any
document created with the template. The macros are for the most part
self-explanatory, so we have not found the instructions necessary.
AIP also has written Instructions for preparation of camera-ready manuscripts
at the web site above, under the link labeled "8.5x11 inch, two-column
format". These Instructions give in great detail all of the font requirements,
margin sizes, etc. needed to create camera-ready papers. All of these
details are automatic in the template, so reading the Instructions is
usually unnecessary. Be warned that there are a few minor inconsistencies
in the Instructions regarding details such as the choice of font sizes
for references. In the case of inconsistencies, the settings of the
Word 97 template file are to be used. Although it is not clear from
the title, these instructions will work for either A4 or 8 1/2" x 11"
paper.

COPYRIGHT TRANSFER
There is a copyright form to transfer the publication rights to AIP.
We have attached the appropriate file, tca_blank.pdf, in Adobe Acrobat
format. You may submit this form either with the initial submission
of the paper or with submission of the final version of the paper. If
your paper includes material from previous publications, you will need
to obtain permission from the publisher to include this material in
the Symposium proceedings. There is an appropriate form on the AIP web
site.
