Liquid-In-Glass Thermometer Mini-Workshop Thermometry Workshop Description The Liquid-in-Glass Thermometer Mini-Workshop will be given at the NIST Industrial Thermometer Calibration Laboratory on May 17-18, 2004. The workshop is designed to provide intensive "hands-on" laboratory training in the calibration of liquid-in-glass thermometers and in the use of liquid-in-glass thermometers as standards for calibrations. Participants will calibrate liquid-in-glass thermometers at the ice point and against a standard platinum resistance thermometer in liquid baths. Instruction will include the use of check standards, stem corrections, and correction for ice point depression. Additionally, uncertainty statements for the calibration and use of liquid-in-glass thermometers will be developed. Time will be split between lecture and laboratory sessions. The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Lectures will conclude by 12 noon on Friday, followed by open house tours of various laboratories. Audience The workshop is intended for calibration laboratory personnel who are familiar with using liquid-in-glass thermometers in a calibration environment and/or have taken the NIST Precision Thermometry Workshop. Participation is limited to 4 persons per workshop on a first-come, first-serve basis. Additional workshops will be held quarterly on an as-needed basis (four wait-listed participants). Cost The registration fee is $800 per participant, per workshop and includes continental breakfast, coffee breaks, lunches, workshop materials, and training certificate. The registration fee must be prepaid in order to guarantee your participation in the workshop.
